Redington Sonic Pro HD Fishing Waders
Why We Love It
The Redington Sonic Pro HD fishing waders are new, and Redington says they're the most durable and comfortable waders they've made. It creates a solid bond without melting the metals together. Who knew?
These are 4-layer waders, so they're really durable and surprisingly breathable. The neoprene booties are tough and form fitting and have an extra bottom layer of protection against punctures. The ActiveFit design ensures a comfortable fit.

Things To Consider:
Taking care of your waders
To keep your waders as long as possible here are some tips to follow.
- Dry them out! This is important. Turn them inside out, and put them somewhere out of sunlight. Then turn them right side in, and let them finish drying.
- Store them away from heat.
- If you want to wash them, just use cold water and then dry them out, but don't use the dryer. Let them air-dry.
Different Types of Fishing Waders
There are really 3 common types of fishing waders:
Each have their pros and cons, the section below discusses the best wader types for various fishing scenarios.
Hip waders are the easiest to put on and take off of all the wader options. They work best for shallower waters, like small streams or low slow-moving body of saltwater that isn't too deep where you would need hip boots instead (which go up higher).
Pant or Waist Waders
I have tried out all three types of waders and the pant-style waders are our favorite. They fit just like any other pair of pants, they’re easy to put on or take off with no extra buttons needed. The They also will keep you cool during hot summer days when fishing near rivers & streams.
Pant waders don’t come up as high as other waders, so they're really best used in smaller to medium sized streams and small rivers.
Chest waders the most used type of waders, and are great for fishing in both shallow or deeper waters. You can use them when it's really cold out, and they're also comfortable enough that you can wear them all day long. They will come either with integrated rubber boots, or with a pant cuff that you can seal and slip over your boots. Keep in mind these typically are more expensive than other types of waders, but they offer more protection too.
What are the Different Materials used in Fishing Waders?
All waders are made from waterproof materials, the most popular ones are Gore-Tex (also used in surgical procedures), Neoprene, and Nylon. There are other cheaper materials used for the very low-end waders, but we wouldn’t recommend you waste any money or time on them as they often fail and leak in short order.
Neoprene is an excellent material for making clothing because it has been around for a long time and can be found in many different thicknesses. The best part about this fabric is that it's perfect to wear during colder months. But Neoprene is also soft and spongy, and moves really well.
Gore-Tex is waterproof and breathable so that it offers a much more comfort and versatility in a wader. Interestingly enough, Gore-Tex is also used in surgical procedures too. Underneath the Gore-tex waders you can put on long johns for those colder days or go commando (if that’s your thing) on those summer days. And it seems that Gore-Tex is easier to repair than other types of waders.
Stocking Foot Or Bootfoot?
When you hear the term "Stockingfoot" when referring to waders it just means that it doesn't come with a built-in boot. It's just a cover that's almost alike wearing a sock. With this style of waders, you’ll need to purchase wading boots separately. This of course adds to your cost but having a specific wader boot is a big advantage. The stockingfoot style will always offer the most comfortable boot because you’re pairing with a custom boot. All the higher end fishing waders will come in a stockingfoot style because if you’re going to spend the money on the top-notch wader, you’ll likely want your own fitted boot as well.
The term "Bootfoot" just means that the boot is connected to the wader. Bootfoot waders are a great affordable option for beginners. They can be used in place of your regular walking boots when you need something that is more supportive and durable, but since they're often made of heavier rubber, they're not going to be as comfortable as buying your own pair of boots.
Best Fishing Wader FAQs
Not sure about buying your own pair of fishing waders?
Don't worry. We’ve created a guide with frequently asked questions to help you choose the best fishing waders for your needs. Hopefully the question you have right now will be answered right here.
What brand of waders is best?
Here is our list of the top 5 best fishing waders:
Are nylon or neoprene waders better?
Neoprene is generally more durable and will withstand activities like duck hunting, where you regularly walk through dense bushes with sharp sticks or murky swamps. Neoprene is more flexible than nylon and can be more comfortable to wear in some situations.
How do you pick fishing waders?
The three most important considerations to make when selecting a fishing wader are the comfort, durability and breathability.
What waders last the longest?
Many experienced anglers say that Simms last the longest, but this isn't always the case. If you want durability, look for a pair with reinforced knees and seams. It can depend on use and care as to how long the waders will last.
How do you choose wader size?
Buying the correct size not only equates to wearing comfortable waders; it also determines the longevity of the waders. The three most important measurements to size yourself for waders are:
- Shoe size
- Inseam in inches
- Largest measurement around in inches (hips, waist, or chest)
Do you get wet with neoprene waders?
Neoprene waders allow no moisture in and no moisture out. This is great for keeping water out but can be miserable and cause your legs to sweat. It can be much tougher when hiking long distances or performing labor in the water.
Are stocking foot waders better?
Stockingfoot waders and rubber-sole wading boots are more comfortable and offer better support for those times when you need to hike in to the fishing spot. Stockingfoot waders also pack down relatively small, which—when coupled with a lightweight wading boot—makes them an ideal choice for the traveling angler.
What to know before buying waders?
A few major things to know before buying waders are breathability, the lighter the better, and insulation. If you fish in colder climates, get insulated waders. If you don't then there's no need for heavy insulation in your fishing waders.
